Our Culture

The Christ-Culture of Crosstowne

Culture is a compilation and embodiment of a set of ideas that make up the definition and expression of a group of people. In a Christ-centric culture, we no longer define our standard of ethics and values by the culture around us, or even our own human nature.

Christ-Culture is intentional and does not happen by accident. We exert it. We impose it. We control our ambitions, desires and responses based upon it.

1. BE UNDERSTANDING: We seek first to understand, then to be understood.

"My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires." James 1:19-20 (NIV)

2. BE COMPASSIONATE: We strive to speak Christ within the story, experiences, and perspective of others.

"To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak; I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some." 1 Corinthians 9:22 (NASB)

3. HONOR OTHERS: We create spaces of value and honor for others.

"… be subject to one another in the fear of Christ." Ephesians 5:21 (NASB)

"Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality." Romans 12:9-13 (NASB)

4. BE PEACEMAKERS: We strive to heal broken relationships.

"…with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." Ephesians 4:2-3 (NASB)

5. FORGIVE OTHERS: We resist traveling the easy road of being offended and are quick to give and seek forgiveness.

"Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NASB)

"Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."
Romans 12:21 (NASB)

"Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted." Galatians 6:1 (NASB)

6. BE HOSPITABLE & GENEROUS: We invest in the well-being of others.

"We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone. See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people." 1 Thessalonians 5:14-15 (NASB)

"…contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality."
Romans 12:13 (NASB)

"Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."
2 Corinthians 9:6-7 (NASB)

7. THINK LIKE JESUS: We use a Greater Mind than our own with others.

"Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves, which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross." Philippians 2:1–8 (NASB)

8. DEPEND ON THE SPIRIT OF GOD: We depend on the help of the Holy Spirit to bring insight and healing in every situation.

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NASB)

"But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good."
1 Corinthians 12:7 (NASB)

9. BE LIKE CHRIST: We constantly seek personal transformation.

"...and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth." Ephesians 4:23-24 (NASB)

10. HAVE FAITH: We expect God-moments.

"And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him."
Hebrews 11:6 (NASB)
